Celebrating 35 Years of Church Growth!

From the small beginning of 19 charter members on November 9, 1975 until the present, South Metro Ministries has enjoyed an abundance of God’s favor. Founded as Peachtree City Church of God by Rev. Roger Powell, initial services began in a warehouse building on highway 74 in Peachtree City.

In January of 1976, worship began in a mobile chapel on a five acre tract acquired by the church. As the congregation grew, the need for a permanent building was evident. The first building was completed in September of 1977, allowing the church a seating capacity of approximately 80 people with three classrooms.

As the blessings of the Lord continued, a new sanctuary was completed in December of 1979. This provided seating for approximately 250  people while the first building was remodeled for Christian Education purposes.

On March 24, 1985, Rev. Allan Mathura became the second pastor of this great church.  Under his  direction, the need for additional education and administrative facilities was met by the completion of a third building, which was dedicated to the Lord in December of 1987.
It was obvious to the church in 1987 that the Lord had much more in store for the future of the congregation. Therefore, under the leadership of the Holy Spirit, ten acres of land were purchased within a mile and one-half of our previous location.

On May 18, 1997 the Peachtree City Church of God conducted services for the first time in the 500 seat sanctuary on the previously purchased ten acre site we now enjoy. Within one year of arrival on the new site, an additional ten acres were acquired bringing the total acreage to 20.

In 2002, the church became debt free and began  construction of our current Family Life and Ministry Center and in 2003, we moved into the new Family Life Center, Music Suite, and Pre-school department. Over the next six years the church acquired four other adjoining properties to the glory of the Lord.

In October of 2006, Peachtree City Church of God changed its name to South Metro Ministries. In October, 2007, we began our Ministry and Mission project which allowed us to purchase a new sign at the entrance of the church, update and repair our parking lot and roof, update our Audio Visual equipment, renovate our children’s ministries department, and add our HeBrews Coffee house. We also purchased a church bus.

The Lord has greatly blessed South Metro Ministries through the years and continues to favor us by adding to this body of believers. As we celebrate our 35 years of growth and service, we reflect on these blessings.

All glory and praise belongs to our awesome God and we look forward with great expectations to what He has planned for our future.
